Recharging Water for Tomorrow
Rainfall gives us a natural opportunity to replenish the water beneath our land, yet rapid construction and increasing cemented surfaces can prevent much of this water from entering the soil. Instead, rainwater often travels across roads, rooftops and paved areas before flowing into drainage systems and away from the location where it falls.
Through its Water Harvesting campaign, Ghar Kar Foundation aims to create practical, location based solutions that help suitable rainwater move back towards the ground. The approach includes developing new rainwater harvesting systems as well as identifying existing structures that may be technically suitable for restoration or improvement.
Every location requires a different solution. Available space, rainfall, surface conditions, existing infrastructure, soil and groundwater recharge possibilities must be understood before implementation begins.
Water conservation also connects directly with the Foundation’s wider environmental vision. Gaushalas require water for animals and maintenance, plantations need continued watering, farmers depend upon local water resources and villages require dependable water systems for everyday life.
By conserving rainfall where possible, Ghar Kar Foundation aims to encourage responsible water management that supports communities, animals, vegetation and the natural environment together.
Concrete surfaces prevent much of our rainfall from naturally entering the soil. Water Harvesting creates practical pathways for suitable rainwater to return underground and contribute towards local groundwater recharge.
Rainwater is a valuable local resource. By understanding each location and developing suitable harvesting systems, Ghar Kar Foundation aims to conserve more rainfall instead of allowing it to flow away unused.
Existing rainwater harvesting structures can lose effectiveness without maintenance. The initiative plans to identify suitable systems that can be restored or improved so existing infrastructure can serve its intended purpose again.
Every site has different land, rainfall, construction and groundwater conditions. Ghar Kar Foundation therefore intends to assess individual locations before determining the most suitable method, capacity and structure for water harvesting.
Water connects farming, animals, trees and everyday rural life. Suitable harvesting solutions can contribute towards stronger local water management while supporting the wider environmental and Gram Vikas vision of the Foundation.
“When we give rain a way back to the earth, we protect a resource every living being depends upon.”
